We checked out Furnace creek CG, just down the road from Texas Spring CG. Not much privacy there and more people. Also a few dollars more expensive than the others. We decided to venture over to Stove Pipe Wells CG. About 24 miles NW of Texas Spring. It's near the dunes, pretty spectacular. We stopped at the day use area and made some lunch. It was rainy and windy and pretty miserable out, but we were warm and dry in our little RV. Just up the road is Stove Pipe CG.
It's a big parking lot surrounded by beautiful, awe inspiring mountains. There are no fire rings or picnic benches for the RV spots, but since this place is pretty deserted right now, we were allowed to pick a tenting spot, which are on the periphery, have tables and fire rings and, backed strategically at an angle, we have views of the mountains and the back 40 from here. Lovely...

We moved from Mesquite Spring CG to Texas Spring CG.  MSCG is at about 2200 feet. TSCG is below sea level. Since it was getting colder and windier, we decided to head to warmer territory. After a beautiful drive and several stops along the way, we settled on a campsite. It's still windy as all hell, but the view is killer!

December 13th, 2013 (thursday)

The coyotes are howling. It's an odd sound, like cackling. They call to each other from both sides of the RV. We are surrounded. I love the way they sound.

It started to rain last night, but was just cloudy and windy today. We took a walk up to the top of some duney type hills made of ancient compressed, mud flow. Hard with a crusty layer that crumbles under your feet

We had a dream. We had been living in Bend, OR for over a decade and, after numerous ups and downs, decided it was time for a change. We were renting a house for a few years and then moved into a warehouse space where Sam could fix up the Sunrader we've had for years. He ended up tearing out a lot of mold and rot and pretty much replacing the interior. It turned out very nicely, after a lot of blood, sweat and, I'm sure, tears (when I wasn't looking?). We answered an ad on Craig's list and ended up moving into an RV space at the beginning of the summer (2012). The property was located just outside of town.

We lived there until November, 2012. During that time we did final touches on the RV and got it organized for traveling. We also had some garage sales and donated a bunch of stuff (anchors). We sold our old Camry. The AC blew strong, but she had 230,000 or so miles on her. We got $1000, and that was a miracle.

Last year, around December, we traveled down to Southern Cal with the RAV and a tent. The weather was cold and windy and it truly sucked.  We vowed to return this year with our RV. We left a little later than we wanted, but, here we are at Mesquite Camp Ground, in Death Valley.
